The School

  • Tintern Schools believes in providing opportunities for all students to excel and reach their potential. The Horizon Centre aims to identify students who possess high intellectual potential, and to provide them with additional support and stimulus to achieve their highest possible goals. In addition, the school offer a range of extension and enrichment activities beyond the classroom to enhance student learning experiences.
  • The parallel learning model is unique and offers students the best of both worlds. From Prep to Year 9 the boys and girls grow and develop through their preferred learning styles in small classes on separate campuses. Years 10 – 12 converge into a single Senior College where the mixed learning and social experiences best prepare students for their lives beyond school.

Admission

  • Tintern Schools requires all international students to undertake an assessment provided by Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS) prior to enrolment.
  • The AEAS assessment tests students’ general ability, English language proficiency and mathematical reasoning. The AEAS assessment is not a pass or fail test. The assessment provides valuable information regarding students’ capabilities, English language abilities and long term goals. The school uses this information to:
    • Place students in the appropriate year level
    • Confirm English language proficiency is sufficient to study in an English medium classroom
    • Inform on subject selection
  • The AEAS assessment recommends the minimum number of weeks intensive English Language study (ELICOS) that students require prior to commencing formal school studies. Tintern follows this recommendation when planning a student’s ELICOS program.

Boarding Houses

  • International students studying at Tintern Schools may have relatives in Melbourne who wish to provide homestay accommodation.
  • Students are not permitted to live independently or without adult supervision during their time at the school.
  • In all other circumstances, students must be accommodated through Tintern Schools Homestay program. The school has appointed Australian Homestay Network as its homestay placement agency. Applications for Homestay must be made at the time of accepting a place at the school.
