Hi Ms. Chan,
I am considering to change my career to become a nurse because of the passion which can help the people and this is a very meaningful & professional job. However, some hesitation as my age is now 35yrs old. Will it be too late to go into this industry ? Also, any constraints & difficulties ? Much appreciated if you can give me some opinion.

Hi Joyce,
Thank you for sharing your life aspiration with me.
Yes, I agree that being in the healthcare and medical professions are very meaningful jobs, serving people in need. But I do agree that starting a new career in nursing and getting trained at your age, you will need more determination to withstand the change and challenge ahead. Leaving aside getting into training program in competition with the younger students and your classmates, the financial implication when you change jobs; other hardship may involve physically demanding hours in shifts duties working in the hospital. Are you ready to take them?
I think you should really think how passionate you are in helping the others as a job viz a viz helping on voluntary basis. One further consideration is that you should get the full support in whatever means from your immediate family members for your career change and making sure they understand the implication and give you support along the way.
Also check out the entry requirements of the nursing program from the local universities of mature student intake and make sure the qualification is recognized by the local medical and nursing authority.
If there is any limitation of you entering the nursing profession, what about the other healthcare professional such as physiotherapy or other rehabilitation healthcare professional for different disabilities ? In my opinion, I think they are helping people in need too and the entry barrier seems to be more suitable for your circumstance.
I am afraid I may not be able to advise if I know little about your background and nursing is not my expertise..
At the end, I fully respect your decision, but I honestly think, to help others in your jobs, you should really assess what you can give and for how long, at your present circumstance, and at what cost, this will be a realistic measure.
Good luck to you Joyce!
