Dear Tommy,
Thank you for your interest in Dr Ed forum.
If you are interested in being a university lecturer and given your highly educated academic background of MBA and currently doing a LLM, you should start asking yourself what subject area you are interested in teaching and at what level of student you are able to teach. In your case it would probably be in some areas of business studies.
I took reference of some part-time lecturer positions advertised recently for Associate Degree and Higher Diploma level and the following is very typical of the qualification requirements :
Requirementsto be a college Part-time Lecturer :
- Candidates should have at least a Master's degree in the relevant discipline; a PhD is preferred, with relevant teaching experience.
- Teaching experience at tertiary level and/or a teaching qualification will be an advantage.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, effective class management skills, and the ability to motivate students are required.
- Preference will be given to those with strong academic/professional background and relevant professional qualifications and membership.
- Experience in programme management and validation will be a definite advantage.
- Self-motivated, independent and able to work under pressure;
- Native or near-native mastery of English.
Having matched yourself with the requirement list and knowing you are close to their expection, you should consider start doing some part-time lecturing in the evening to try out to see if you like it enough to turn full time. After all teaching involved delivering knowledge to lots of students, it is very people-driven and therefore time-demanding as well as the need for teaching administrative work, you should be prepared to face that too if you consider doing it full-time.
Good luck to you!
